Choosing a career training program over a four-year college might be right for some grads
Calling all high school seniors in the Trenton/Hamilton area! Are you still unsure of what to do after graduation? It can be hard to figure out the right path to take after graduation, and you may be busy looking at colleges and other post-secondary options. This is a great time to reach out to your school guidance counselor, teachers, and mentors for advice. It’s also the time to look inward to figure out what you want for your future.
Four-year college not right for you?
Some high school graduates do not think that a 4-year college is right for them. They may not look forward to the idea of four more years before they can get into the workforce. Or they may not be interested in the academic programs that colleges offer. Or they may be more interested in vocational career paths. If this sounds like you, you might want to consider career-focused training.
One option is the Harris School of Business in Hamilton, New Jersey. We are an accredited school, and our Hamilton campus offers three programs in the health and wellness field. Each of these programs can be completed in less than one year’s time. Our school prepares students for entry-level positions in the following job fields:
If you are a Trenton-area student who is not considering a 4-year college, take a look at some of these important benefits of choosing the Harris School.
1. Easier application process
Unlike 4-year colleges, applying to become a medical assistant, massage therapist, or medical biller does not require that you take the SAT or have the world’s highest GPA. We just ask the following of you:
- Provide us with a copy of your high school diploma (or equivalent)
- Pass our admissions test, which tests some basic skills
- Complete an admissions interview
- Provide a $25 application fee
- Complete an enrollment agreement
2. Graduate in less than one year
Our programs are designed so that they can be finished in less than one year’s time. Your time at the Harris School will include taking classes at our campus on Quakerbridge road, as well as spending time in an unpaid internship where you gain real on-the-job experience. When you graduate, you will have the skills and knowledge you need to apply for entry-level positions in your new career field. Our programs are also good foundations should you decide you want to get additional education in the future. Just think…next year at this time you could be a Professional Medical Assistant!
3. Convenient to Trenton
We are conveniently located within walking distance of the 609 bus route from downtown Trenton—the trip takes less than 20 minutes. For students who drive, our campus on Quakerbridge Road is very easy to reach from route 295. We are a commuter school with no residential facilities. So this means that you will not have the expense of college room and board. We also offer evening courses for those who work during the day.
4. More personal atmosphere
One of the hallmarks of getting your career education at the Harris School is the small and comfortable atmosphere that our school provides. With only three programs being offered near Trenton, we can dedicate our time and resources to getting to know our students. In a big educational setting like a community college, some students may feel lost. They find the large lecture halls to be impersonal or intimidating. A smaller school like the Harris School is sometimes a better fit, since we have smaller class sizes and provide our classes all under one roof.
5. Financial aid advisors who are here to help
We know that paying tuition is a concern for anyone who is looking at post-secondary education. With the small size of our school, we are able to provide Financial Aid Advisors who will help you figure out what you need to do to apply for Federal Financial Aid. We want to help you make it work!
We hope this article helps you in your big decision. If you think that the Harris School could be a good fit for you, give us a call, contact us online, or schedule a tour. We would be happy to share more information with you about becoming a Medical Assistant, Massage Therapist, or Health Claims Specialist. Your future could begin at the Harris School!
