Students Lead Collection to Support Domestic Violence Victims

The Wilmington campus of the Harris School of Business embraces the giving season

Wilmington, DE. Students at the Wilmington campus of Harris School of Business have a lot of heart when it comes to helping others in the community. This holiday season, the students organized a donation drive for an area shelter that houses victims of domestic violence.

Students worked with the director of the shelter to create a list of items that are most useful to the shelter’s residents, such as shampoo, towels, toothbrushes, and other personal hygiene items. By collecting these donated items, the students helped the shelter provide a hospitable environment for people who are experiencing domestic violence and need a safe place to live.

“New people come into the shelter on a short-term temporary basis, and therefore the shelter has an ongoing need for new personal hygiene items, so that everyone can have a new towel, wash cloth, and toiletries when they arrive,” says Krystianna Beebe, one of the students who participated in the drive.

Three students enrolled in the dental assistant training program were active in organizing the project, and are pictured with the boxes of collected items. (From left to right above: Krystianna Beebe, Kevin Mullen, and Christen Cupples.) Harris School of Business wishes to extend a sincere thank you to all of the generous donors who gave brand new items to the collection.

While the name and location of the shelter are kept confidential, Harris also wishes to show its appreciation to the shelter’s director for helping to make this activity a success. Working with business and technical schools in the region is just one of the many ways that the shelter works with its community partners to help those affected by domestic violence.

As one of the region’s accredited business schools, Harris School of Business operates seven campuses in the Delaware Valley. Some of the program offerings include massage therapy courses, dental assistant training, medical billing courses, surgical technologist training, technology training in the legal and accounting fields, and training for pharmacy technicians and health technicians.
