Philadelphia, PA: Michelle Washington, a student in the Dental Assistant program at the Harris School of Business, was recently highlighted in the Pegasus newsletter, published by Premier Education Group, of which the Harris School is a subsidiary.

Ms. Washington is the type of student to make any school proud. She has ambitious career goals and works hard to attain them. Her long-term goal is to become an oral surgeon, so she enrolled in the Dental Assistant program at Harris to gain hands-on experience in the field of dentistry while working toward her long-term goal.

Michelle was pleased with her experience at Harris. “The teachers at Harris are motivating, and they care about the students,” Michelle shared. In addition, Michelle found that the extern coordinator made every effort to support her interest in oral surgery. “My externship was at an oral surgeon’s office called Southeastern Pennsylvania Oral Surgery. I got to assist the surgeons during operations. It was a great experience.”

Career Services Helps to Place Students from the Dental Assistant Program

When Michelle was finishing up her training, the Career Services department was influential with her job search and helped her find possible job leads. In a short time, Michelle was offered—and accepted—a dental assistant job at Elite Dental in the Germantown section of Philadelphia. “I love my job,” says Michelle. “Harris taught me what I needed to know, from setting up the patients’ room and taking x-rays, to sterilizing equipment and assisting the dentist.”

Michelle is currently working on undergraduate studies at the same time as working at Elite Dental. And after earning her undergraduate degree, she plans on attending dental school and applying for an oral surgery residency. “It will take some time, but it will be worth it!” says Michelle.

The Harris School of Business wishes Michelle Washington all the best as she continues along her career path.
