If you are unemployed or looking for work, try career-focused training
Being unemployed is a struggle. Long periods of being unemployed can be frustrating and lead to added stress, anxiety, or depression. Trying to find a new job can be frustrating, and you may feel that your skills are not as marketable as they used to be. You may be starting to think, “I can’t find a job,” or “I’ll never find a job.” Rather than falling into these self-defeating attitudes, try to focus on the positive.
If you are unemployed, remember that it’s nothing to be ashamed of. Unemployment can happen to anyone. As the economy changes, layoffs can put a lot of people out of work. While the job search can be discouraging, the most important thing to remember is… Don’t give up!
If you are starting to feel that you won’t find a job in your current field, you may want to consider a short-term job training program. Here in South Jersey, there are two branches of the Harris School of Business. The Harris School offers career-focused training that can be completed in as little as one year’s time. In just one year, you could have new skills and competencies that could start you on your way to a new career path.
Our Cherry Hill campus features training programs in the following areas:
- Medical Assistant
- Massage Therapy
Our Voorhees branch has the following offerings:
- Medical Assistant
- Health Claims Specialist Plus (Medical Billing and Coding)
- Dental Assistant
- Multi-Skill Health Technician
- Surgical Technology
Benefits of short-term job training
Choosing a short-term program can be a good fit for people who need to get back into the workforce quickly. Here are some of the benefits:
1. You can get trained in 1 year or less.
Programs at the Harris School are designed to be completed in less than one year. The courses are strictly focused on the skills and knowledge you need for your new career field.
2. You may be eligible for financial aid.
If the cost of training is scaring you away, think again. The Harris School can accept financial aid if you are eligible. Take the time to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and see if you qualify for aid. If you do, then attending school may be more affordable than you think.
3. You will have marketable skills.
At the Harris School, our programs are offered with today’s job skills in mind. We work with an Advisory Board of practicing professionals in the allied health and legal/business industries. Our board helps to ensure that our curriculum is up to date with the kinds of skills that employers are looking for in their employees.
4. You will have support.
Our Career Services office is here to help students start on their new career path. We can support you in your job search efforts by offering mock interviews, resume support, and other job search advice. We have connections with South Jersey employers and are often able to direct students toward possible job leads and other opportunities.
Choosing to start a new career is never easy. But if you are hitting too many dead ends in your job search, it may be time to make a change. If you think career-focused training might work for you, come take a tour of our facilities at any time. The Harris School also has campuses in Wilmington, DE; Dover, DE; Upper Darby, PA; Linwood, NJ; and Danbury, CT. We hope you start your new career path with us!
