Massage Therapy Program Returns to Harris’s New Jersey Campuses

massage therapy program NJNew program helps students prepare for their NJ licenses more quickly

Good news! The Massage Therapy program is back at three New Jersey campuses. The locations in Cherry Hill, Linwood, and Hamilton are proud to announce the newly updated curriculum and are beginning to enroll new students now. With the new curriculum, students can complete the program in just five months.

“Our new massage therapy program prepares students with everything they need to know to obtain their license in New Jersey. We have an emphasis on core knowledge classes and a heavy concentration on hands-on opportunities so that students can practice their new massage techniques,” says Krista Kernan, program director at the Cherry Hill campus. “We continually review our offerings to make sure we are staying current with the trends in this growing field,” she continues.

The campuses in New Jersey had been offering the Massage Therapy program in years past, but they recently decided to put the program on temporary hold in response to New Jersey state legislation regulating the licensing of massage therapists. The new curriculum has been reviewed, updated, and aligned with both state and national requirements.

As in past years, the program includes specialized techniques such as Swedish massage, therapeutic massage, reflexology, prenatal, hot stone, geriatric, sports, and other types of techniques. The program also offers an internship program where students have the opportunity to learn what it is like to work in a real spa before entering the workforce.

Instructors for the program come from a variety of backgrounds, including spas, chiropractor’s offices, ayurvedic practices, and physical therapy offices. This kind of breadth allows students to gain experience from professionals across a range of specialty areas, and helps students decide what type of workplace they may want to pursue.

At 750 hours, the new program exceeds the state’s 500-hour minimum and meets the national requirements. “By choosing an intensive program that exceeds state standards, our students are better prepared for the workforce, and can even sit for a national certification exam if they choose,” explains Kernan.

“Our program has always featured a high number of instructional hours,” Kernan continues. “As a result, our reputation among area spas is strong. We are known for providing well-prepared employees who are ready to start on day one.”
