You can be trained as a health claims specialist in less than one year
Are you someone who is interested in the field of healthcare, but you get queasy at the site of blood? Do you want to work in a medical facility, but fear the thought of needles? If this describes you, then one career field that you might consider is that of the Health Claims Specialist. Also known as medical billers and medical coders, these professionals do the behind-the-scenes office work that is needed in hospitals, medical offices, and other healthcare facilities throughout the country.
Health claims specialists work in office settings, usually at a desk or a cubicle. They are responsible for ensuring that the healthcare provider is paid for the services they deliver. To do this, they assign special codes to the diagnoses and procedures that patients receive, so that insurance companies will provide reimbursement. They process and submit health insurance claim forms and follow up on overdue payments. They help patients understand their policies and the portion of the bill that they owe. Medical billers and coders are critical to the efficient functioning of the healthcare system.
