Student council holds activities that give students a voice in their school
Dover, Del.–The votes have been cast. The results have been tallied…. A coat of arms will be the brand new emblem for the Dover campus of the Harris School of Business! Earlier this month, the Student Council held a contest in which students were invited to submit ideas and sketches for a new emblem. The emblem will be used on t-shirts and caps that will be available for students to purchase.
Entries in the contest were fun and creative. One of the entries was a hoot owl with the Harris H on his jacket. Another was a hippopotamus with an H on his vest. The winning entry was a coat of arms that featured a symbol for each of the professional career fields that are offered at the Dover campus: Professional Medical Assistant Plus, Health Claims Specialist Plus (Medical Billing and Coding), Massage Therapy, and Surgical Technology.
Now that the design has been chosen, the next step will be creating a final design based on the sketch. Once that step is complete, the emblem will be ready to be unveiled!
Activities like the emblem contest are one of the many ways that Student Council promotes student involvement and school pride. Other recent activities at the Dover campus have included a potluck dinner for students who had completed their Electronic Health Records training, a Fall Festival for all students to enjoy, a celebration of Constitution Day, and a remembrance on 9/11.
Upcoming activities are on the schedule as well. On November 7, the school will hold a pinning ceremony for students who have completed all their courses and are getting ready for their externships. And like last year, the school will participate in the St. Baldrick’s fundraiser for childhood cancer. More activities are sure to be planned around the December holiday season, so stay tuned!
The Harris School wishes to thank the members of the Student Council for volunteering their time to help make the school such a welcoming place. One of the hallmarks of the Harris School of Business is the small-school feel, in which students can have a voice in their school. The Student Council is very instrumental in giving students an outlet to express their concerns.
