Benefitting Delaware’s children is a cause that is close to everyone’s heart
Dover, DE: Like many of America’s urban areas, the city of Dover is home to many families who have been hit by tough economic circumstances. The students at the Dover campus of the Harris School of Business wanted to do what they could to help out this holiday season.
This December, students and staff worked together to host a toy drive, and it was an incredible success! We never imagined we would contribute as many toys as we did! At first we had started collecting presents under the holiday tree in the corner, but soon we needed much more space. Bags of presents were stacked on top of each other and stretched around the corner.
The toy drive started out with an Angel Tree in our lobby. In coordination with the Salvation Army Angels, we decorated our holiday tree with tags. Written on each tag was a gift that a child had wished for. Students, staff, and faculty could take a tag and shop for that item. Or they could contribute to our fund that helped us purchase toys. In the end, our fund raised over $450 toward the toy purchases, and we were able to provide holiday gifts for over 100 children in need. This exceeded our expectations and made us so proud of everyone who contributed!
The toy drive was following on the heels of our Stuff the Pantry food drive for the Thanksgiving holiday. With two drives scheduled back-to-back, we weren’t sure of the response we would get, but we were pleasantly surprised! The level of generosity was tremendous. We are so honored to have students, faculty, and staff who care so much about the Dover community!
