Tips to Keep Healthcare Workers Energized Throughout Their Work Day!
Each work day, healthcare workers are busy caring for patients. Professionals, like practical nurses and nursing assistants, will have to attend to the needs of patients and stay alert if there is a healthcare emergency.
It’s easy for your energy to become drained when you’re so busy. If you’re a healthcare professional looking for ways to stay energized on the job, read ahead for natural energy-boosting tips!
Tip #1: Start your day off right…eat a healthy breakfast!
Eating a healthy breakfast is essential to getting the day on the right foot. After a long night’s rest, your body needs to reenergize. According to the American Deictic Association, a healthy breakfast should consist of low-fat meats, lean dairy, fruits, and whole grains. Try eating fruits with vitamin C to supply you with the nutrients you need to stay alert and energized for your shift. You’ll feel more prepare and awake if you remember to eat breakfast.
Tip #2: Go outside
Remember to give yourself a break every once in a while. Staying indoors all day may cause you to become fatigued because of the overhead lighting or repetitive tasks. Stepping outside for some fresh air can give you a second wind of energy. A five or ten minute walk will supply oxygen flow to your brain and help you stay awake.
Tip #3: Exercise regularly
Healthcare jobs are generally very active. But before you go into work you should be energized! Thirty minutes to an hour of regular exercise before your shift will help you become awake and motivated. Exercise allows nutrients and oxygen to kick start your muscles and cardiovascular system. Take a shower afterward so you are refreshed and prepared for your day!
Tip #4: Switch up your tasks
Alternating tasks can help keep your mind active throughout a busy day. It’s likely that your healthcare job will require you to multitask. But don’t let your duties become static! Alternate between tasks like recording patient data, checking vital signs, collecting specimens, or assisting patients. Interacting with your co-workers will also help your mind stay alert to listen to important updates or information.
Tip #5: Eat midday snack
Midday snacks can help you maintain your energy levels. During your midday break, eat snacks that are rich with nutrients and vitamins. Some snacks that are simple to prepare and bring to work are:
- Leafy green vegetables (broccoli, lettuce, kale)
- ½ cup of bananas
- Peanut butter and crackers
- Whole grains
- Granola and yogurt
These snacks can help prepare your for a busy day. These healthy foods will help supply nutrients to power your brain and your muscles!
