As a multi-skilled health technician, you could work in different clinical roles, including nurse’s aide, phlebotomist, or EKG technician. You will assist physicians with collecting and handling blood samples. You will interact with patients, and be involved in various aspects of patient care. Depending on the size of the practice you join, you might undertake both administrative and clinical responsibilities. You would work with physicians, nurses, other health practitioners, administrators, and office staff members.

The Multi-Skilled Health Technician program at Harris School of Business is designed to prepare students in all phases of cardiovascular technology, as well as phlebotomy by obtaining blood samples from patients by capillary or venipuncture. This 750-hour program will prepare you for a fast-paced career in a variety of clinical settings.

As a multi-skilled health technician, your job duties will vary from day to day. Here are some of the tasks you might perform regularly:

  • Gather and prep lab specimens
  • Perform basic lab tests
  • Draw blood
  • Teach patients about medications and special diets
  • Prep and administer medications as directed by a physician
  • Process paperwork for prescription refills
  • Prep patients for X-Rays
  • Conduct electrocardiograms
  • Remove stitches
